TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Visitors arriving at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport can have their luggage delivered free of charge if they stay at one of 30 hotels on a list announced Friday (May 10).

The project, in cooperation with delivery service Pelican, will allow each visitor to have one piece of luggage sent over to the hotel at no extra cost while he travels around during the day, the Central News Agency reported.

The Taoyuan City Government said that per year, a total of 40 million passengers entered or left the country through the airport, offering a unique opportunity to promote the local tourist sector by persuading arriving travelers to pick a local hotel.

The travelers could first take a bus to view the districts of Daxi and Cihu while their luggage was already on its way to their hotel, officials said.

Candidates for the program have to fill out a form online first, and once disembarked at the airport, they should head to the Pelican desk to hand over the luggage by 2 p.m., which will then arrive at the hotel by 7 p.m., the reports said.

Turkish-Taiwanese media star Ugur Rifat Karlova (吳鳳) and several online celebrities from Thailand were on hand to promote the formula, which started earlier this month, at the airport Friday.
