TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – At least a hundred Taiwanese Star Wars fans showed up near Taipei 101 to mark May 4, and one of them turned out to be President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

Fans of the science fiction classic have chosen May 4 as their day, due to the similarity between the date “May the Fourth” and the movie’s catchphrase “May the Force be with you.”

Last year, the president already did her part in the celebration by inviting the fans over to the Presidential Office Building though she did not attend in person.

This Saturday she joined over a hundred people on the roof terrace of the ATT4Fun shopping mall in one of the capital’s busiest districts for a picture with the iconic Taipei 101, the Central News Agency reported.

Tsai crossed light sabers with Darth Vader, while other fans from Taiwan and overseas, some of them dressed up as other Star Wars characters, crowded around them to shout “May the Force Be With You” with her.

The event would put Taiwan on the map internationally, CNA reported.
