TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Tanya Shen Gang Green Bikeway (潭雅神綠園道) is one of the best destinations for people in the Taichung metropolitan area who like to ride a bike for exercise and recreation.

The bikeway, inaugurated in May 2004, is the second bike path built by the city government right after the construction of Dongfeng Bicycle Green Way (東豐自行車綠廊), according to an introduction to the bikeway on Taichung Travel Net.

It starts from Zhongshan Road in Taichung’s Tanzi District (潭子區), goes westward through Shen Gang (神岡) and Daya (大雅) districts, and ends within Central Taiwan Science Park. It is approximately 14 kilometers in length.

Built on an old military railroad bed, Tanya Shen Gang Green Bikeway is gently sloping – and mostly pretty flat. Therefore, it’s appropriate for almost any rider.

Cyclists are sure to enjoy a relaxing ride, soaking up refreshing views of the trees and a variety of scenic landscapes along the path, according to the introduction.

There are three bike-only overpasses that cross the busier streets in the city, making the ride safer for cyclists.

Bike rentals can be found near the intersection of Chongde Road and Dafeng Road, which is located close to the bikeway.
