TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The art installation “Nook” (光合台東), created by the Portugal design studio FAHR 021.3 is now being exhibited in Taitung (台東).
Taiwan design studio Artfield (禾磊藝術) commissioned the Portuguese design team to create the large-scale installation. This was in response to the Taitung Design Center (台東設計中心) project to bring new life to the area around Taitung train station (台東舊火車站).
FAHR 021.3 designed Portugal's Venice Biennale of Architecture (威尼斯建築雙年展) hall. For Nook the aim was to make the train station area a place full of possibilities from both a cultural and geographic perspective.
Nook is an 8-meter tall cube covered with semi-transparent fabric. It creates a space for people to chill out during the summer and a romantic spot at night when there is mist.
The artist, Hugo Reis, explained that before building the installation he considered the weather in Taitung, so he could optimize it to the surroundings. Nook, he added, would inspire interactions and encourage people to communicate with each other more.
