Survey ranks Taipei as 9th-most livable city in Asia-Pacific region

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- In the latest annual survey by Mercer Management Consulting, Taipei ranks 9th in the Asia Pacific region for its quality of living.

In its survey, which ranks 231 cities based on 10 factors, Taipei ranked 9th in the Asia Pacific Region, and 84th overall in the world. For the 10th year in a row, Vienna took 1st place in the world, followed by Zurich.

In Asia, Taipei trailed only Seoul, Hong Kong, Nagoya, Osaka, Yokohama, Tokyo, Kobe, Singapore. Meanwhile, Taichung tied with Johor Bahru for 12th place in the Asia-Pacific region and 101st overall.

Taipei and Taichung surpassed their Chinese rivals in the world, with Shanghai coming leading the pack at 103rd, followed by Beijing at 120th, Guangzhou at 122nd, Shenzhen at 132rd, and Chengdu at 134th.

The survey measures the quality of living in a given city based on the following factors: Recreation, housing, economic environment, consumer goods availability, public services and transport, political and social environment, natural environment, socio-cultural environment, school and education, and medical and health considerations.
