TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- To coincide with the Alishan cherry blossom festival, there will be guided steam train rides available on the mountain starting March 20, announced the Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office yesterday (March 5).

To coincide with the Alishan National Scenic Area's annual cherry blossom festival, which runs from March 9 to April 10, the office announced that special guided steam trains will be available to 100 passengers per ride, from March 20 to March 27. The whole journey will be narrated by a professional guide and will include visits to hot spots and "secret areas" of the Alishan National Scenic Area, enabling passengers to better understand "cherry blossom culture and the forest railway's story."

The steam trains will chug along the Alishan Forest Railway Zhaoping Line and will include stops for snacks and scenic views. Stops along the line include historic Erwanping Station, built in 1912, and Siaoliyuanshan platform, where visitors can see a panoramic 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains.
