TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – At 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, a dead body was discovered on the beach of Zhongjiao Shazhu Bay (中角沙珠灣) in New Taipei City.

The body was badly decomposed, suggesting it had been at sea for some time, and authorities have not yet confirmed the identity. It was a male, approximately 170 cm tall.

There is speculation that the man was one of three men who were washed out to sea on the third day of the Lunar New Year, while night fishing on Keelung’s Heping Island (和平島). Two of the men were pulled ashore, although one of the men died shortly after rescue.

However, the third man, a 57 year old, surnamed Chang (張), was never found. The family of the missing person has been notified of the discovery, reports UDN.

The Jinshan Branch of the New Taipei Coast Guard was notified this morning, after the public discovered the body on a rocky area of the beach. The man’s bones were already visible after weeks in the ocean.
