Battle of Taiwanese tennis titans taking place in Dubai

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – At the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships in the women’s doubles, a match between Taiwanese tennis titans is happening today when the Chan sisters face off against Hsieh Su-Wei (謝淑薇) and her Czech partner, Barbora Strycova.

The semi-final match-up between the Latisha Chan (詹詠然)and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and Hseih/Strycova will take place Friday afternoon in Dubai. Taiwanese media has called the match-up a “Civil War” that will finally show the world who is currently the greatest Taiwanese tennis player.

The team that triumphs in the match will proceed to the final match on Saturday, Feb. 23, to face either Kaitlyn Christian and Lara Arruabarrena (U.S.A. /Spain) or Lucie Hradecka and Ekaterina Makarova (Czech / Russia).

The winner of the doubles tournament will take home the US$2.8 million dollar prize.

Hseih is playing in the doubles and singles tournament, and surprised the world with an upset over Germany’s Angelique Kerber to advance to the singles semi-finals.
