TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwanese tennis champion, Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇), marked another victory on Feb. 20 at the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships.

Hsieh, who is ranked 31 in the world, successfully defeated the world’s seventh ranked women’s singles tennis player, Angelique Kerber, from Germany.

After struggling in the first set, which resulted in a 5:7 loss for Hsieh, she quickly found her footing in the second match and reversed the match’s momentum with a 6:4 result.

Finally, in the third set, Hsieh shutdown all of Kerber’s attacks, and returned with some impressive offense ending the final match 6:0.

The match marks the third time the two athletes have faced each other on the court, with Kerber emerging victorious in the two previous matches.

Following the match, Hsieh said she was happy she could finally overcome the talented Kerber’s skill and manage a victory herself, reports LTN.

After the victory, Hsieh will move on to the quarter finals where she will face Czech tennis player, Karolina Pliskova, who is ranked number 5 globally.
