TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An upgraded ticket booking website for the Taiwan Railways Administration will be launched Feb. 21, featuring a range of smart reservation services that allow passengers to pick seats, among others.
The fourth-generation ticketing system will enter full operations on Apr. 23 to replace the old version, according to Central News Agency.
Touted as smarter than ever, the new service employs a visualized interface and riders will be able to select seats as well as to obtain tickets via mobile phones. After completing transactions, they will be able to enter and exit ticket gates simply by showing their cell phones.
The service also promises the best possible deal connecting short-distance journeys should long-distance train tickets sell out. This allows for more effective use of seats and helps save time for passengers, CNA quoted Wang Wen-chien (王文謙), an official from Taiwan Railways Administration.
