Taiwan's Chan sisters reach women's doubles quarter-finals at Qatar Total Open

Taiwanese sisters Latisha Chan (詹詠然) and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) advanced to the quarter-finals of the women's doubles at the Qatar Total Open Wednesday, overpowering Japan's Shuko Aoyama and Lidziya Marozava of Russia in two straight sets.

The Chan sisters took a 4-0 lead at the beginning of the first set but their Japanese-Russian rival came from behind to force a tie-breaker before the Taiwanese duo managed to secure a 7-6 (2) victory.

The Taiwanese sisters took the upper hand in the second set, taking a 4-1 lead before their rivals battled back to earn a 5-4 lead at one point. The Chan sisters eventually defeated their opponents 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.

The Qatar Total Open is a premier tournament on the 2019 Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, held from Feb. 11-16 at the International Tennis and Squash complex in Doha, with a purse of US$916,131.
