TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The 2019 Yangmingshan Flower Festival is set to kick off on Friday (Feb. 15) and traffic controls will be in effect four 11 days during that period, therefore, visitors are advised to take public transportation.

The annual Yangminshan Flower Festival will kick off on Friday and will run until March 17. Cherry blossoms on Yangmingshan have been blooming since late January and can be seen throughout the park with Taiwan cherry (山櫻花) being the first wave of cherry trees to flower.

The next wave of cherries to bloom are Yae-Zakura (double-layer) cherry blossoms (八重櫻), which started budding at the beginning of Lunar New Year and will continue to flower until the end of February. In March, Showa cherry (昭和櫻) and Yoshino cherry (吉野櫻) will begin to bloom, before the festival climaxes with Rhododendron flowers.
