TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Tsai Ing-wen published a Facebook message Tuesday afternoon, on the first day of the Lunar New Year, declaring Taiwan’s fortune lies in the hands of its people.

Tsai wrote that as long as Taiwanese stick together through thick and thin and march boldly forward, the country will be set for a prosperous future.

It was also announced that the president has prepared a “lucky bag” of policies to reward the nation for its hard work over the previous year. Among those revealed were “festive” tax cuts and basic wage increases.

The Presidential Office Facebook page shared Tsai’s message, adding that office spokesperson Chang Tun-han (張惇涵) reiterates that Taiwan’s future will be defined by the hard work of all its people. “We will not be discouraged by drawing a short straw; likewise, we will not relax if dealt a good hand, nor stop in our tracks if dealt no hand at all,” he said.
