Young Taiwan baker wins 'best showpiece' in international competition

Lyon, France: The 48th UIBC Young Bakers Competition was held Jan. 29-30, Taiwanese student Chang Ting-Wei took 2nd place in the overall competition

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A student baker from the Department of Baking Technology and Management at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT), was victorious at the 48th Young Bakers Competition of the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC), held in Lyon, France, Jan. 29-30.

Taiwanese student Chang Ting-Wei (張廷瑋) was given the “Best Showpiece” category award for the amazing work entitled “Taiwanese Aboriginal Hunter,” and was awarded with the second place silver trophy overall.

The NKUHT team consisted of Chang along with fellow student Hsieh Hseih-Yi (謝協益), working under the guidance of their professor Liao Han-Hsiung (廖漢雄). The team’s creations all reflected the culture and character of Taiwan, and were no doubt delicious as well.
