TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Taiwan Women's Golf Open, which has the largest purse in the LPGA of Taiwan (TLPGA) tour, will take place at Hsin Yi Golf Club in Kaohsiung City from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20.
The open has a total purse of US$800,000 (NT$24 million)
Chairman of the Golf Association of the ROC, Wang Cheng-sung (王政松), said that even though the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship has the highest prize money among all the golf events played in Taiwan, it is an LPGA tour event, according to media reports.
Taiwan’s golf association cooperates with Korea’s KLPGA on Taiwan Women's Golf Open to enhance the event's level of competition, according to reports. Forty players from Korea will play in the event, 33 of whom are currently ranked in the top 200 in the Women's World Golf Rankings.
Taiwan’s Chen Yu-ju, who won the most prize money in last year’s TLPGA tour, and former world No. 1 Yani Tseng will join other local players to compete in the event.
The event is said to have been included in the qualification system for the golf competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
