Taiwan's Chan sisters advance to Women's Doubles Final in Brisbane

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s young tennis stars, Chan Yang-jen (詹詠然), and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴), have advanced to the championship round of the Brisbane International Tournament in Australia.

In the semi-final match on Jan. 4, the Chan sisters defeated their opponents, Chinese athlete Xu Yifan (徐一幡) and Canadian athlete Gabriela Dabrowski, winning two matches out of three, bringing them one step closer to the championship and the prize money of US$1 million.

After two impressive matches in the tournament already, the Chan sisters came out strong against the Xu-Dabrowski duo, taking advantage of some mistakes in the first round to take the round 6:2.

Their opponents found their rhythm in the second round and bested the Chan sisters 4:6. However, the Taiwanese duo were up to the challenge in the third round.

Impressively each team went point for point in the third round to reach an even 8:8, but in the final moments of the match, the Chan sisters' teamwork proved to be too much for their competitors, ending the round and the match at 10:8.

The Women’s Doubles Final is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 5.
