TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced the garbage truck schedule for the upcoming 2019 Lunar New Year period.

While trash collection is usually not available on Sundays, the agency has made an exception for Feb. 3, the day before Lunar New Year’s Eve. According to a news release posted on the agency’s website on Dec. 26, 2018, the collection service will be available on the day since people need it before they leave for the long vacation,

For Lunar New Year’s Eve, the DEP said it will offer two pickup times—one in the afternoon and one at night.

Garbage collection services will be suspended from the first day to the third day of the Lunar New Year (Feb. 5-7).

Regular trash, kitchen waste, and recyclable material collection will resume on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, while oversized waste pickup will resume on the fifth day, the agency said. Trash collection is not available on the sixth day, which is a Sunday.

The DEP also said residents are welcome to call the 1999 Citizen Hotline or the agency directly to schedule free pickup of old furniture, appliances, and oversized waste ahead of time, during the period from now through January 27.

Those who need to dispose of trash during the Lunar New Year holiday, but are not available during the designated time, can visit any one of the 35 trash collection stations across the city between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. For more information, please visit the Chinese website of the agency.
