TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Techno Third Prince Nezha (電音三太子)-themed pageant wagon from Taiwan has won the International Award with the Tournament of Roses Parade, or Rose Parade, held in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California.

This marks the second consecutive year for China Airlines of Taiwan to claim the award with a specially designed float in the annual parade, which is one of the most anticipated New Year’s Day events in the U.S, reports the Central News Agency.

Set to the the music of “The Melody of Life,” the 130th-edition of the event kicked off with the flyover of stealth bombers at 8 a.m. on Jan. 1. The event drew an estimated 700,000 spectators and a TV audience of 44 million, according to CNA.

This year, the parade saw the participation of 88 units including floats, bands, and equestrians. Taiwan’s award-winning float featured Techno Third Prince Nezha, a signature image of the country’s temple culture, and more than 10 drummers performing to the tune of “The Gods Bless Taiwan” (眾神護台灣) by local band The Chairman (董事長樂團).

Supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Tourism Bureau, China Airlines noted that the winning project was inspired by a foreign designer who expressed his affection for the figure of Techno Prince and made a quick sketch of a float idea on a napkin, wrote the report.

Last year, China Airlines wowed the audience with an award-winning pageant wagon featuring a scuba diver floating above fish and a coral reef.
