TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Temperatures will remain cold through the first days of 2019, especially in northern Taiwan where people can expect wind and rain to ring in the New Year.
Heavy cloud cover along with some pockets of heavy rain are expected in north and northeastern Taiwan, while the central and southern regions can also expect some light scattered showers this week.
The Central Weather Bureau predicts moist weather and temperatures of 15 to 16 degrees Celsius around Taoyuan and Taipei. Southern and Eastern Taiwan can expect warmer temperatures with possible highs of around 23 to 25 degrees Celsius for New Year’s Day.
The Northeast Monsoon, and a large cloud system approaching from the south will cause cloudy weather over most of the country this week. The CWB has also warned that the outlying islands and the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung may experience strong winds and rough seas over the coming days.
The Environmental Protection Agency has reported that air quality this week should be mostly “good” as a result of the incoming cloud systems and increased rain in the forecast, reports CNA.
