TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A man suspected to be involved in a bank robbery in New Taipei City’s Banqiao District was arrested on Dec. 29, reported CNA.
The man, surnamed Yu (游), was arrested after an altercation with police yesterday evening.
The Sunny Bank branch on Duxing Road was robbed on Friday afternoon by two men brandishing a gun, which was later discovered to be a toy, and got away with NT$3.34 million (US$109,264).
The robbery took about 2 minutes, and the robbers fled on a stolen scooter. The scooter was later recovered in a department store car park in Luzhou District.
Police said they tracked the scooter driver using footage from CCTV cameras.
During the course of the investigation, police recovered DNA evidence at the scene of the crime, as well as clothing used in the robbery, which led police to Yu’s door.
Yu tried to escape according to CNA, who report that police fired three shots during the arrest, but no one was injured.
The motive of the crime is still under investigation.
