TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – With the New Year approaching, the Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO) of Taipei recommends a number of riverside parks promising fantastic views for the Taipei 101 firework spectacle without the expected crowds drawn to the year-end bash near the landmark skyscraper.

The 360-second Taipei 101 pyrotechnic show will feature 16,000 shells and an LED lighting curtain covering the tower’s exterior, according to HEO.

As the Rainbow Riverside Park (彩虹河濱公園) is located north-east of the high-rise, it will not be affected by the northeast seasonal winds and thus provides a vantage spot for watching the lighting spectacle and fireworks upwind without smoke and haze blocking the view.

For revelers seeking to watch both the Taipei 101 and Miramar (美麗華) fireworks shows -- another highlight of the New Year’s Eve celebrations – they are advised to secure a spot at Meiti (美堤), Guanshan (觀山), or Yingfeng (迎風) riverside park.

Not only are they top choices for watching fireworks display, the city’s riverside parks are also ideal for cycling and picnicking activities in the daytime, with ample parking spaces.
