NEW YORK (AP) — The FBI says a New York man aided the kidnapping of two children whose mother fled an ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect in Guatemala.
Authorities arrested Aron Rosner this week on charges accusing him of giving financial assistance to the group Lev Tahor in an international abduction scheme.
Rosner's defense attorney did not respond to an email seeking comment.
The FBI says the children's mother was a "voluntary member" of Lev Tahor, but escaped the group after it became more extreme.
The kidnapping allegedly happened Dec. 8. Surveillance footage shows the children walking out of their upstate New York residence at 2:56 a.m. and entering a vehicle.
The FBI says the children— 12 and 14— were with Lev Tahor members in Mexico earlier this month. The whereabouts of the children was not clear Thursday.
