MEXICO CITY (AP) — Police in the Mexican resort city of Acapulco say an 84-year Swiss citizen has been killed in an apparent robbery attempt.
Prosecutors in southern Guerrero state say the man was stabbed to death at a home in Acapulco.
The man's wife was wounded in the pre-dawn attack Thursday. The couple was on vacation in the Pacific coast resort.
Prosecutors did not give the man's name or hometown, and the Swiss embassy did not immediate respond to calls and email requests.
Acapulco and the rest of Guerrero state have been plagued by gang violence and are currently subject to a level-four "do not travel" advisory by the U.S. State Department.
