TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - After a wave of speculation, Kaohsiung Mayor-elect Han Kuo-yu’s (韓國瑜) team on Saturday named Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Hollywood star planning to visit the southern city next March.

As Han has presented numerous proposals which afterward proved problematic, there was initial skepticism about the Kuomintang politician’s words that a “major Hollywood star” would present a speech in the city next year.

Initial speculation focused on Academy Award winner Leonardo di Caprio, who is well known for his devotion to environmental causes.

However, on Saturday, a spokesman for Han’s team said former governor of California and “Terminator” star Schwarzenegger would visit Kaohsiung to hold a speech on the topic of “The Movie Business and the New World Politics,” the Apple Daily reported.

One of Han’s comments had focused on bringing Disneyland to Kaohsiung, but when that promise was seen as unrealistic, the mayor-elect said that in the meantime, he would be inviting a Hollywood star to the city.

Han recently also suggested building a horse racing track on the site of a discarded oil installation, but the cleanup of the facility will have to last until 2033, officials said.
