TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Airbnb earlier this month announced that Taiwan ranks as the 19th most trending tourist destination for 2019.
On Dec. 3, Airbnb released its list of the 19 Destinations to Visit in 2019. The accommodation-sharing site generated the list by ranking the destinations based on internal data showing year-on-year increases in bookings, searches, and additions to user "wish lists" made for 2019 as of October 2018, compared to data for the same period in 2017.
In first place was Kaikoura, New Zealand, followed by Xiamen, China; Puebla, Mexico; Normandy, France; and Great Smoky Mountains, U.S., rounding out the top five.

On Airbnb's site, interest in Taiwan increased by 100 percent over last year. The company said that while Taipei remains the favorite, more tourists have placed Daxi District in Taoyuan and Yujing District in Tainan on their wish lists this year.
The "increasing variety of historic and culinary attractions" at the relatively small town of Daxi is drawing more visitors to make a day trip from Taipei, according to Airbnb. The company said that those seeking an experience further afield are choosing Yujing for its mango farms and hot springs.

Airbnb says Taitung City is drawing many treasure seekers for the relics found in excavated Neolithic slate coffins. It also said birdwatchers are attracted to Taitung's numerous lakefront paths.
