TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Mandarin Oriental Taipei is holding an international street art exhibition for the first time between Dec. 15, 2018 and Feb. 18, 2019.
Entitled “ALL THE RAGE – Urban Art Exhibition,” the showcase is a collaboration between the hotel group and Taipei-based art gallery Dopeness Art Lab. The exhibition features more than 200 pieces of artwork from 30 top class street artists.
The artwork on display includes never-seen-before giant outdoor sculptures measuring 4m to 6m in height, along with wall murals, stencil graffiti, paintings, multimedia art, sculptures, and art prints, according to Mandarin Oriental Taipei.
Impromptu art creation events will take place on an irregular basis during the exhibition period, involving artists’ perception and criticism of society, capitalism, consumerism, mainstream values, among other ideologies and phenomena, reported Central News Agency.
The event marks the first time a prestigious hotel in Taipei has held a large-scale art exhibition. A trend is on the rise for hotels to join hands with the art world for marketing purposes, with one example being an art studio established at the Regent Taipei hotel in July, which spotlighted emerging artists from Taiwan, CNA wrote.
