TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Chiayi city in southern Taiwan is preparing to host the 25th annual International Band Festival this week from Dec. 14 through Dec. 23.
There are bands from across Asia, and from further abroad visiting Taiwan this week, offering an incredible schedule of performances with bands ranging in age from middle school groups to adult professional ensembles.
Saturday, Dec. 15 will feature a grand Marching Parade and a Field Show Party showcasing some select arrangements of local groups and guest marching bands.
For anyone who can make the trip to Chiayi Saturday, or any day over the coming week, it will be well worth the trip.

According to the event website there are bands from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, St. Lucia, as well as great number of bands from all over Taiwan.
The Festival is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Tourism Bureau, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in association the local Chiayi City government.
The Chiayi City International Band Festival has been a highlight of Chiayi’s cultural activities since it began in 1993. According to the Tourism Bureau the Festival has contributed to “shaping urban culture with band music, marketing the cultural characteristics of the city, and promoting international exchanges.”
Thanks to the successful tradition of the International Band Festival, Chiayi has claimed the title of the “Capital of Band Music” in Taiwan.
