TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - A French student who lost her smartphone in a taxi two days earlier thanked police for finding it within an hour of her reporting it missing.

The student, aged 20, had fallen asleep during the cab ride and had not noticed her smartphone staying behind when she left the taxi, the Central News Agency reported.

Because she had a meeting scheduled with a professor to go hiking, she did not immediately report the incident to the local police station but waited until two days later.

The National Chengchi University student told the Zhinan Police Station in the Wenshan District of Taipei City on December 10 at 7:30 p.m. that she had lost the phone during a taxi ride which had started at 7 a.m. on December 8.

Police used surveillance cameras to determine which taxi had been in the area at the time and made phone calls, which resulted in success within an hour, CNA reported. They found the taxi driver, and in the meantime kept the French student informed of their progress.

She expressed her gratitude and her surprise at how fast police had found her phone, and allowed a picture of her to be taken with an officer and with the taxi driver.
