BEIJING (AP) — The foreign ministers of China and North Korea have met in Beijing amid a lack of progress in efforts to persuade Kim Jong Un's regime to halt its nuclear weapons program.

Ri Yong Ho held talks Friday with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, but details of the discussions have not been released.

China is North Korea's most important ally, but has agreed to United Nations economic sanctions over its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles programs.

Ri is also expected to be briefed on discussions last week between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently said his next meeting with Kim would likely happen in January or February.

Despite the initial optimism generated by Kim and Trump's June summit meeting in Singapore, little has transpired since then.
