TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – As it is the late fall and early winter, maple trees in Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area (大雪山國家森林遊樂區) have begun to change colors, Taiwan Forestry Bureau said in a news release posted on its website on Thursday, urging the public to begin planning a trip to Dasyueshan to enjoy the maple trees.

The maple trees at Dasyueshan are mostly Taiwan Red Maple, Green Maple, Fragrant Mapl, and Kawakami Maple, according to the news release.

Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, located in Heping District, Taichung City, is about an hour’s drive from Dongshi (東勢). Take Dongkeng Road (東坑路), and then follow Dasyueshan Forest Road to get to Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area. Along the road, red spots formed by maple trees dotting the verdant forests serve as a guide to lead visitors to the secret place where there is a denser congregation of colorful maple trees, Forestry Bureau said.

The maple leaves are especially bright red along the section between Dasyueshan Visitor Center at the 43K mark and the Siaosyueshan area at the 49K mark, the agency added.

In addition, it’s the season of “seas of clouds" at Dasyueshan, Forest Bureau said, adding that with clouds drifting between mountains and red maple trees, the beauty of the poetic and breathtaking views is beyond description and can only be enjoyed by going there, the agency said.
