Examination Yuan chief to attend  Ford's funeral

President Chen Shui-bian has named Examination Yuan President Yao Chia-wen as his envoy to attend the funeral of former U.S. President Gerald Ford in Washington, the Presidential Office said Saturday.
Yao has been told of the appointment and is expected to depart for the United States Sunday and return to Taiwan on January 4.
Ford, who replaced Richard Nixon as president when Nixson resigned over the Watergate scandal, died December 26 at the age of 93.
His funeral will be held in Washington on January 2 before he is buried in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The 38th U.S. president was in office for about two and a half years from August 1974. He was the longest-living former U.S. president, surpassing Ronald Reagan, who passed away in June 2004.
