President appoints new environment minister in Finnish government

President Tarja Halonen on Friday appointed the new Swedish People's Party leader Stefan Wallin as Finland's environment minister, in line with a previously agreed government change.
Wallin will replace Jan-Erik Enestam, from the same party, on Jan. 1. Enestam agreed to make way for Wallin after he was voted party chairman in June.
The change, agreed by coalition partners the Center Party and the Social Democrats, does not change the party balance of the 18-member Cabinet.
Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen's coalition has been shuffled several times since it took office in 2004.
