Malaysian stock index climbs on plantation sector boost

Malaysian shares rose Friday, led by gains in plantation heavyweights amid expectations of higher commodity prices.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index of 100 blue chips climbed 0.7 percent to 1,096.24 points.
Traders said plantation stocks were boosted because investors expect crude palm oil prices to increase amid continuing floods in southern Malaysia that could cause a supply shortage.
Among key plantation gainers, PPB Oil Palms jumped 7.6 percent to 11.40 ringgit, while IOI Corp. added 2.9 percent to 18.40 ringgit.
