Christmas is the merriest and the most celebrated season for Filipinos. Even though they are far from home, our fellow Pinoys pulled out all the stops to observe this festive holiday in Taichung.
Last Saturday, Siliconware Precision Industrial Co. Ltd. -- one of the biggest companies in central Taiwan that employs the most number of Filipinos in the area -- organized Christmas parties in three locations. The events, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, were hosted by Champion/Sunrise Manpower, Mengo Trading, and Pan Asia Manpower.
The parties featured singing and dance competitions. Prizes were also given away to lucky draw winners. Despite their busy work schedules, the Filipinos still found the time to prepare special numbers for their parties.
Last Sunday, the Immaculate Conception Church in Taichung, in coordination with MECO Taichung, Labor and OWWA, presented a Christmas Holiday Concert for Filipinos at Tajhih Elementary School from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.. The show was topbilled by the D' Majeed Band. All band members are Filipinos. A lucky draw was also held.
On the same day, Filipinos employed at AU Optronics in the Taichung Industrial Park held a Paskong Pinoy. The party was put together by Dartwits, Yang Luck and Kanglin. The fun-filled event featured a lot of dancing and singing.
MECO Labor would like to thank all those companies and agencies for bringing some Yuletide cheer to our kababayans in Taichung this season. Even though they are far away from home, they still felt the spirit of Christmas.
