Xavier "X-Man" Carter confirmed for Birmingham indoor meet

Xavier Carter, who ran the second fastest 200-meter time in history, will compete in the 400 at the Birmingham indoor meet on Feb. 17.
"I really enjoyed my first run in the U.K. at Crystal Palace this year," Carter said Thursday. "So I was keen to come back and do the Grand Prix in Birmingham, which has the reputation as one of the best meetings on the indoor circuit."
Carter _ also known as "X-Man" _ ran 19.98 to finish second in the 200 at the Crystal Palace GP in July, 0.14 behind American teammate Tyson Gay.
The first European Grand Prix meet of 2007 will be Carter's only indoor race of the season.
"The people in Britain seemed to take well to me when I was over here and to enjoy the fact that I'm putting a bit of fun back into the sport, hopefully I can put on a show for them in Birmingham," he said.
Carter ran 19.63 in the 200 at Lausanne, Switzerland, on July 11. Only Michael Johnson has run faster, clocking 19.32 at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
The 21-year-old Carter is the first athlete since Jesse Owens in 1935 and '36 to win four U.S. college titles at one championship _ the 100, 400 and two relays.
