Ajax beat Roda JC to rise to second in Dutch league

First-half goals from Welsey Sneijder and Zdenek Grygera propelled Ajax over Roda JC 2-0 and into second place in the Dutch soccer league on Wednesday.
Sneijdner profited from a defensive error to score from inside the penalty box for his eighth goal of the season.
Grygera clipped home a close-range effort in the 44th minute.
In the standings, Ajax jumped over AZ Alkmaar, which lost for only the third time in 19 rounds, 3-0 to FC Twente on goals by Blaise N'kufo, Luke Wilkshire and Kennedy Bakircioglu.
PSV Eindhoven, its 12-game winning streak ended in a 1-1 draw with Feyenoord on Tuesday, led the Eredivisie with 50 points, followed by Ajax on 41. AZ dropped to third on 40 with Twente fourth with 38.
Brazilian striker Alfonso Alves and Canadian forward Will Johnson each scored in SC Heerenveen's 2-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.
RKC Waalwijk stayed bottom of the league after drawing 1-1 at fellow struggler ADO The Hague. Santi Kolk scored in the 87th to cancel Tim Janssen's 45th-minute strike for Waalwijk. The draw left Mark Wotte winless since his Dec. 14 appointment as Waalwijk's head coach.
Other 19th round results were: FC Utrecht 0, Heracles Almelo 0; NAC Breda 2, Vitesse Arnhem 1; Willem II 2, Excelsior Rotterdam 1; and FC Groningen 0, Sparta Rotterdam 1.
