TVA celebrates 50th anniversary

Taiwan Visitors Association (TVA), the first tourism organization in Taiwan, hosted its 50th anniversary party and the 2006 ceremony for donators (members) in the Westin in Taipei. Hosted by Chang Shuo-lao, chairman of Taiwan Visitors Association, the ceremony invited many tourism heavy weights including Tsai Duei, minister of Transportation and Communications, Lai Se-jen, director general of the Tourism Bureau, Stanley Yen, honorary chairman of Taiwan Visitors Association.
Tsai recalled the humble start of the association when it got little support from the business sector and the government as Taiwan was underdeveloped at that time. Despite the frustrations Taiwan has undergone, such as the break-off of diplomatic relations with its allies, energy crisis, financial crisis, 921 earthquake and SARS, Taiwan Visitors Association has always played a critical role in supporting Taiwan's tourism.
Lai congratulated the Taiwan Visitors Association for being the "only" and the "first" in Taiwan's tourism history - the first domestic private tourism organization and the only institution aiming at boosting in-bound tourism.
To express its deepest appreciation for the 50-year efforts made by previous chairmen, directors and the members, Taiwan Visitors Association presented gratitude certification to 188 units and individuals.Pictured from left are Lin Quin-po, Stanley Yen, Tai Duei, Lai Se-jen, Chang Shuo-lao, Lee Quin-song.
