U.S. stock markets observing moments of silence in honor of late president

The New York Stock Exchange held a moment of silence Wednesday in honor of President Gerald Ford, who died Tuesday at 93. The Nasdaq Stock Market planned an observance of its own later in the morning.
The NYSE marked Ford's passing with two minutes of silence before the start of trading at 9:30 a.m. (1430 GMT). The Nasdaq said it will observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. (1600 GMT).
The nation's stock markets traditionally have closed on the day of a president's funeral. The exchanges said they were waiting for details of Ford's funeral to be released before announcing their own plans.
