Teenage pace bowler Ishant Sharma to join Indian cricket team in South Africa

Teenage pace bowler Ishant Sharma is flying to South Africa to join the Indian cricket team as a replacement for all-rounder Irfan Pathan, a cricket official said Wednesday.
Sharma, 18, is yet to make his test debut and currently plays for New Delhi state. He performed well for the India under-19 team on tour to England and Pakistan early this year.
Cricket authorities decided to send speedster Pathan back home after his lackluster bowling performance in the one-day series in which South Africa scored a whitewash 4-0 win.
"Ishant Sharma is joining the Indian team," Ratnakar Shetty, a top cricket official, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Pathan didn't play in the first test which India won by 123 to lead the three-match series 1-0.
Indian quick bowler Munaf Patel also has missed the first two tests because of an ankle injury.
Sharma could be considered for the third and final test against South Africa next week in case of injuries to any of the three seamers currently playing in the second test.
