Indonesian shares hit fresh all-time high on gains in telcos, bank, automotive

Indonesian shares hit an all-time high Wednesday on gains in telecommunications, bank and automotive blue chips.
The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite index closed up 19.285 points, or 1.1 percent, at 1,803.264, surpassing its last best finish of 1,789.086 on Dec. 21. Gainers outpaced losers 104 to 43 with 87 stocks unchanged.
Indosat, the nation's second largest cell phone operator, rose 4.8 percent to 6,600 rupiah, while its rival, Indonesia's No. 1 operator, Telkom, ended up 1 percent at 10,000 rupiah.
Car distributor Astra rose 1.3 percent to 15,800 rupiah, while Bank Mandiri, the nation's largest bank by assets, gained 1.7 percent to 2,925 rupiah on hopes for strong 2006 earnings.
The local currency, the rupiah, also gained against the U.S. dollar, closing at 9,036 rupiah, above Tuesday's 9,074.
