Government should get involved in establishing "Chen Ding-nan Memorial Hall"

Former Minister of Justice Chen Ding-nan died of lung cancer on November 5. Chen was widely respected for his honesty and clean-handedness throughout his political career. In order to give the public a place to remember him, his good old friends and subordinates are actively getting the project of“Chen Ding-nan Memorial Hall”underway and openly seeking co-founders and volunteers for early realization of the project.

They have collected a great many of Chen's relics, including a large number of books packed in two hundred boxes, more than 10,000 pictures, his manuscripts throughout his career as a student, county magistrate, legislator, and minister of justice, a university notebook he kept for 40 years, and a 1954 movie ticket stub.

Chen is most remembered for his turning the outlying Yilan County into the most livable place in Taiwan during his term as the county magistrate, and for his iron-fisted and impartial approach in administering justice and fighting corruption. Chen’s love for Taiwan and dedication to the country's democracy is an inspiration to the people of Taiwan as well as an precious asset of the country. For this reason the government of Taiwan should get involved in the project and help make Chen Ding-nan Memorial Hall a reality.
