Taiwan shares rise to fresh six-year high

Taiwan shares rose to a fresh six-year high on Tuesday with all sectors being pulled up partly by fund managers' buying for year-end window-dressing, traders said.
The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange gained 80.78 points, or 1.1 percent, to close at 7727.59 points, the highest since Sep. 5, 2000's settlement at 7785.62.
"Local fund managers' window-dressing continues to play a big role in the gains," said Fubon Securities trader Derek Lam.
Rubber plays went up almost 3 percent, with Formosa Plastic gaining 1.5 percent at NT$53.80.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's largest contract chip maker, gained 1.4 percent to NT$66.
Lam, however, warned of a possible pullback on Thursday, when Taiwan index futures traded in Singapore will be settled.
