Officials: Brazilian fatally hit crossing Nebraska highway

WEST POINT, Neb. (AP) — Authorities in northeastern Nebraska say an 86-year-old man from Brazil has been hit and killed while crossing a highway.

The Norfolk Daily News reports that incident happened Wednesday morning in West Point.

The Cuming County Sheriff's office says Leonard Reeson of Santarem in Brazil was attempting to cross Highway 275 when he was hit while in the center lane of the northbound lanes of traffic. He died at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point from his injuries.

Officials say the 29-year-old driver and a passenger were treated for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Reeson was a brother with a religious order based in Austin, Texas. He was visiting relatives in West Point.
