BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — Mali opposition leader Soumaila Cisse says he rejects the results proclaiming President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita the winner of a presidential runoff.
Cisse said Friday that he won the election with 51.75 percent of the vote while Keita received 48.25 percent, according to his party's tallies. He said he would file a fraud complaint to the Constitutional Court, which has until Aug. 22 to approve the runoff result.
The Ministry of Territorial Administration said Thursday that Keita won a second five-year term in the turbulent West African nation, capturing more than 67 percent of the vote in Sunday's runoff, while Cisse received over 32 percent of the vote.
More than 2.7 million Malians voted Sunday despite threats by extremist groups, a 34 percent turnout.
