France, Slovenia to host 2023 ski world championships

COSTA NAVARINO, Greece (AP) — Neighboring French resorts Meribel and Courchevel have been picked to host the 2023 Alpine Skiing world championships.

The International Ski Federation says the joint bid won a 9-6 vote to stage the biennial event over the only other candidate, Saalbach in Austria.

Slovenian venue Planica also won a 9-6 vote, over Norway's Trondheim, as it was chosen as host of the 2023 Nordic world championships.

Georgia will stage a ski world championships for the first time. Bakuriani in the former Soviet Republic was a unanimous pick for the 2023 freestyle ski and snowboard worlds.

FIS says Vikersund in Norway was awarded the 2022 worlds in ski flying.
