Indian shares soar, touch record high

Automakers gained sharply Friday, lifting Indian shares to a new record.
The Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark 30-stock Sensex rose 148.47 points, or 1.1 percent, to close at 13,844.78 points.
On the rival National Stock Exchange, the 50-stock S&P CNX Nifty rose 43.10 points, or 1.1 percent, to close at 3,997.60 points.
The Nifty crossed the key 4,000 level for the first time, touching 4,001.30 points during intraday trade
"Markets have climbed to a new record and there is euphoria along with greater expectations," said Jigar Shah, director at Mumbai-based brokerage K.R. Choksey Securities. "But there are also greater concerns because there is a higher chance of expectations not being met. "
Tata Motors surged 4.1 percent to 843 rupees, Maruti Udyog Limited jumped 3 percent to end at 952 rupees and Hero Honda Motors Limited ended 3.9 percent higher at 772 rupees.
