TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Over 500 dawn redwood trees in Nantou County's Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area have turned bright yellow and orange, and a few maple varieties in the area have started to turn a brilliant red, with park officials estimating that the maple leaf season will last until the end of December, reported UDN.
Situated in Zhushan Township in central Taiwan's Nantou County, the Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area is the scene of an explosion of bright hues of yellow, orange, and red leaves in late fall and early winter, reminiscent of high latitude countries such as Canada and South Korea.
Park officials said that currently all of the dawn redwoods have turned either golden yellow or orange, with a few patches of red. In addition to dawn redwoods, there are a number of maple species turning color, including 10 to 20 percent of the park's 880 green maples and the 100 fragrant maples, with the maple season expected to last until the end of December.
