TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The winter is creeping in across Taiwan, and some people may not be thrilled about spending the colder months in the city. If so, it's important to remember that Taiwan is a subtropical island and beautiful all year round. Even though winter is upon us, there are still plenty of places that the flowers are in bloom.
If you are looking for a place to see some beautiful fields of flowers (花海 in Chinese), then here are three spots in Southeastern Taiwan that are good for flower viewing over the winter months.
Hualien, Jian Township (吉安鄉):
The Hualien District Agricultural Research and Extension Station has been showing off their huge field of Mesona flowers, that have bloomed into a wonderful light purple, appearing similar to a field of lavender. The flowers bloomed in October and should remain so through December. But visiting sooner is always better than later!

Hualien, Fuli Township(富里鄉):
Farther down the coast in Hualien, try stopping by the Loshan Recreation Area in Fuli Township. Loshan Recreation Area plants flowers that will bloom in each of the four seasons. Visit in the month of December to see one of their famous arrangements of brightly colored flowers.

Taitung, Chishang Township (池上鄉):
Chishang Township is in Northern Taitung County. The township is known for the beautiful field of flowers they prepare every year for visitors from December through February. Yellow rapeseed flowers alongside cosmos flowers and sage, make the Chishang field of flowers an excellent place to spend a leisurely afternoon.
