TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- According to an official from the Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ovation of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in Asia, arrived at Hualien Port on Saturday to bring 3,700 international tourists into eastern Taiwan.

The cruise reportedly weighs 168,666 tons and is 347 meters in length, making it the largest cruise liner to berth at the Hualien port, which had earlier welcomed eight other cruise liners this year.

Port official Chang Tzu-ying (張自英) said preparations for the arrival had been ongoing for several months, including the renovation of the port itself.

Tourists were welcomed by indigenous dancers performing at the port on Saturday.

The vessel which is operated by Royal Caribbean International arrived a day earlier at Keelung Port from Hong Kong and is scheduled to return to Hong Kong after its trip to Hualien and Taichung Port.

Large number of tourists who came with the cruise liner are expected to visit Hualien's Taroko National Park, a local shrine, a railway cultural park as well as other tourist attractions, as reported by the Central News Agency.
