Thai shares rise on bargain-hunting

Thai shares rose 1.49 percent on Monday, led by bargain-hunting in banks by foreign and institutional players after sharp consolidation last week.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's benchmark SET Index gained 10.79 points to close at 734.66, as trading totaled 2.1 billion shares worth 12.32 billion baht.
Energy blue chips gained amid rising global oil prices, while some medium-cap issues rebounded in partial correction for recent weakness.
Among actively traded issues, Siam Commercial Bank PCL rose 6.2 percent to 68.50 baht, oil and gas giant PTT PCL gained 1.8 percent to 224 baht, and Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL gained 2.9 percent to 5.25 baht after the announcement of higher European Union import quotas for cooked chicken from Thailand.
Newly listed Union Petrochemical PCL meanwhile fell 4.8 percent to 2.40 baht.
